A neighbour of Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe has been fined $50 (Ksh 4,250) or 30 days in jail for letting his dogs hunt on the 90-year-old leader’s compound. Michael Pazarangu was convicted after pleading guilty to the offence before a Harare magistrate on Monday. He was accused of allowing his dogs to roam freely into President Mugabe’s private residence in Harare where they killed a bushbuck last year. Mr Pazarangu old presiding magistrate Vongai Muchuchuti that the offence was not serious but admitted that he had been negligent. The same court had last week issued a warrant for his arrest after he failed to turn up for sentencing. PRIVILEGE AND RESPONSIBILITY Prosecutors said Mr Pazarangu was privileged to be the President’s neighbour and should therefore be responsible. The court was told that in May 2013, Mr Parazangu’s dogs were spotted ready to feed on the carcass of a dead buck. The dogs ran away to his yard in an opening in the fence separating the two properties. He was charged after officials from the country’s wildlife authority identified the dogs as the ones they had shot the previous year over a similar incident. President Mugabe’s plush home in the exclusive suburb of Borrowdale Brook in December hosted a lavish wedding for his daughter Bona that was attended by serving and former heads of state. The property is heavily guarded. More here www.nation.co.ke/news/africa/-/1066/2368126/-/79kqn5z/-/index.html
